Cebron "Chief" Russ Track Scholarship
Starting in 2026, Berkeley High will be awarding the new Cebron “Chief” Russ Track Scholarship at our Senior Awards Ceremony in May. This scholarship was established by alum Ted Bell (BHS ’79) in honor of his uncle, Cebron Russ (BHS ’57) - State Champion, Hall of Famer, and UC Berkeley scholar-athlete.
Celebrating “Chief”: Confident, Honest, Intelligent, Excelling, and Family
Each year, two graduating seniors (one male + one female) from the Track & Field program will be recognized with this award ($500 unrestricted scholarship, paid directly to the student), which celebrates the spirit of “Chief”: Confident, Honest, Intelligent, Excelling, and Family. Recipients should demonstrate:
-
Strong academic achievement
-
Character, leadership, and integrity
-
Excellence in track events, with special consideration for hurdles, long jump, and sprint events
Please submit your nominations in the linked nomination form by April 15.
Nominations will be reviewed in partnership with Ted Bell, the BAF Board, and the BHS Athletic Department.
Finalists will be selected in late April, and awards will be presented at the Senior Awards Ceremony in May.
This is a special opportunity to honor our student-athletes while carrying forward the remarkable legacy of Cebron Russ.
